Muldrow, OK

Muldrow is a Sequoyah County town in the Fort Smith, Arkansas–Oklahoma metropolitan area, northeast of Interstate 40 and about ten miles southeast of Sallisaw. The 2020 census counted 3,272 residents. The town coalesced after the Kansas and Arkansas Valley Railway reached the area before 1888, got a post office in 1887 named for Henry Muldrow, and rebuilt after an 1895 fire destroyed most of its businesses. Cotton, ranching, truck farming, feed mills, and later poultry processing all left marks on the working map.

Muldrow City Park has a playground, walking and jogging trail, basketball and volleyball courts, a covered pavilion, a splash pad, and a creek. Muldrow City Lake sits northeast of town, and its dam, built in 1965, improved the water system. The schools line Main Street and Shawntel Smith Boulevard, while Sequoyah’s Cabin Museum is about twelve miles to the north-northwest. Muldrow’s local scoop is a railroad town that turned its old cotton-and-farm base into a place organized around school, park, lake, and highway.
