About Nanty-Glo

Nanty-Glo is a Cambria County borough whose name gives away the old industry: the Welsh phrase Nant y Glo means ‘stream of coal.’ The settlement began as a lumber camp around the South Branch of Blacklick Creek, then grew into a coal community and later a borough with a strong local-history streak. The Nant-Y-Glo Tri-Area Museum serves the borough and neighboring townships, while the Ghost Town Trail runs from here along former railroad beds past the remains of mining communities. Nanty-Glo is coal-country Pennsylvania with the archive, trailhead, and old creek valley all in the same place.
