About Nanwalek

Nanwalek is a census-designated place near the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, containing a traditional Alutiiq village. Formerly known as Alexandrovsk and later English Bay, the community originated in 1786 as the first Russian mainland post in Alaska. Today, Nanwalek has a population of under two hundred and fifty residents and lies less than five miles from Port Graham. A local school serves the community's students, maintaining local education within this isolated coastal settlement.
