Napoleonville, LA

Napoleonville is a quiet bayou community that serves as the parish seat of Assumption Parish. Set right along the banks of Bayou Lafourche, this small village of around six hundred residents has deep roots in French and Acadian heritage. Local history traces its name back to a French soldier who fought under Napoleon Bonaparte before settling along the water in the early nineteenth century. Today, it remains a peaceful rural town surrounded by sprawling sugarcane fields.

As the parish seat, Napoleonville hosts the parish government, a historic 1896 courthouse, and area schools including Napoleonville Elementary and Assumption High. Highways 1 and 308 flank the bayou on either side, making it simple to get around town or commute to larger neighboring hubs like Thibodaux and Donaldsonville. Living here offers a calm, friendly rhythm where waterfront views, historic architecture, and local Cajun culture define daily life.
