Nectar, AL

Nectar is a Blount County town in the Locust Fork valley, with State Highway 160 running through its center and the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River along its borders. The settlement existed before Alabama became a state and was once known as Tidmore. The first school opened in 1890, and agricultural production shaped the area's twentieth-century economy. In 1976, local leaders formed the town in response to a shortage of potable water, giving Nectar's municipal story a practical beginning.

Today the river brings canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and hiking into the local map. Town services include a park with three ball fields, a walking track, basketball courts, a pavilion, and a playground, along with a community center, water department, and volunteer fire and rescue department. Children attend Hayden or Cleveland schools in the Blount County system. Nectar's quick local read is a Highway 160 community where an old farming landscape, a river corridor, and town-run services all meet in one small Blount County place.
