Neenah sits right where Lake Winnebago spills into the Fox River, a location that shaped the community from day one. In the 1800s, that rushing water powered early flour and paper mills, turning the area into a major industrial hub. Kimberly-Clark was founded right here in 1872, and the wealth from the paper boom left behind gorgeous historic architecture, civic landmarks, and grand waterfront mansions near Riverside Park. Today, Neenah covers the lakefront, downtown, the southern half of Doty Island, and suburban neighborhoods stretching west toward Interstate 41. Running daily errands is easy along Commercial Street and Winneconne Avenue, and Interstate 41 makes for a quick commute to Appleton or Oshkosh. The local economy remains anchored by paper, packaging, and manufacturing, along with strong healthcare systems and corporate offices throughout the Fox Valley.

Being right on the water shapes what people do for fun here. Riverside Park runs along Lake Winnebago out to Kimberly Point, where you can check out the lighthouse and watch boats on sunny afternoons. Just down the road, the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass offers free admission to its world-famous paperweight collection inside a historic lakefront home. In the summer, Shattuck Park draws crowds for outdoor concerts and a weekly farmers market right by the water. If you enjoy getting outside, the 3.5-mile Loop the Little Lake trail uses pedestrian trestle bridges to connect Neenah, Menasha, and Fox Crossing, giving walkers and bikers great views of the shoreline, parks, and historic mills.
