Nekoma, IL

Nekoma is a Henry County census-designated place with 23 residents and 11 housing units in the 2020 Census. The community lies in Weller Township, in the southern part of the county. Its early layout followed the first train through the area in January 1869, and the village was laid out on July 21 of that year. Two grain elevators supported Nekoma’s role as a grain-marketing center. The Census boundary covers 338,082 square meters of land at 41.1719°N, 90.1910°W. Its small boundary preserves a place shaped by rail arrival, township settlement, and farm trade.
