About Nellieburg
Nellieburg is a Lauderdale County census-designated place six miles northwest of Meridian along Mississippi Highway 19. The 2020 census counted 1,316 residents. Okatibbee Creek forms the community's eastern edge, running south toward the Chickasawhay River and the Pascagoula watershed. That geography puts Nellieburg in Meridian's orbit while keeping the creek and highway as the clearest organizing features of the place.
The Meridian-Nellieburg Road gives the community a second piece of its everyday road map, connecting Meridian's corporate limits to Mississippi 19 over roughly five miles. Nellieburg is unincorporated, so its public services and civic administration are handled through Lauderdale County and the surrounding regional network. There is no separate municipal downtown to define the place; homes, side roads, the creek, and the highway carry most of the visible structure. For larger errands, the road into Meridian is the practical next step. For residents, Meridian is the nearby county seat and service center, while Nellieburg remains a named community on the northwestern side of the metro area.
