About Nelsonville

Nelsonville is a one-square-mile Hudson Highlands village in Philipstown, Putnam County, with 624 residents in the 2020 census. It sits directly east of Cold Spring, between the Hudson River landscape and the hills around Mount Taurus, known locally as Bull Hill. Route 301 and Main Street form the practical center, and the compact housing stock makes the village feel like a small residential pocket beside a much bigger mountain-and-river setting. It is only about 50 miles north of New York City, but the local roads and hills quickly put the metro at a distance.

Daily connections run outward: Haldane Central School District serves students, Metro-North and the main roads carry commuters, and Cold Spring supplies the nearest larger cluster of shops and services. The West Point Foundry Preserve is part of the area’s industrial backstory, while Hudson Highlands trails, the river, Boscobel, and West Point shape weekend geography. Nelsonville is small enough to read in a few streets, but its surroundings carry the scale.
