About Nevada City

Nevada City is the county seat of Nevada County, California, situated sixty miles northeast of Sacramento in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Originally a Nisenan village named Ustumah, the community of approximately 3,172 was settled by gold miners in 1849 under the name Nevada. Public education is administered by the Nevada City Elementary School District, and the town is noted for its well-preserved Gold Rush-era architecture.
