New Berlin, WI

New Berlin straddles a north–south drainage divide in eastern Waukesha County. Nearly 27 square miles—about 73 percent of the city—lie west of the divide in the Fox River watershed, which drains to the Mississippi River; the remaining land drains toward the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River. The Milwaukee-area city counted 40,451 residents in 2020. It first came under local government in 1838 as part of the Town of Muskego. The following year it separated as the Town of Mentor, then adopted the name New Berlin on January 13, 1840. Present-day recreation sites include playing fields at Malone Park near City Hall and a disc-golf course at Valley View Park.
