About New Bern
New Bern is a riverfront city in Craven County, set where the Trent River meets the Neuse River. It is one of North Carolina's oldest European-founded towns, settled in 1710 by Swiss and Palatine colonists under Christoph von Graffenried, and it later served as a colonial capital. The city's historic side is still visible through Tryon Palace, old districts, and National Register sites. New Bern also has a lighter claim to fame as the birthplace of Pepsi, first created there in the 1890s.
