New Hackensack, NY

New Hackensack is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in the northeastern part of Wappinger, in western Dutchess County. The 2020 Census counted 1,497 residents, and the CDP sits between Myers Corner to the southwest and the Hudson Valley Regional Airport to the west. Its setting is part of the Hudson River Valley, with the town's roads tying a residential community to the larger Poughkeepsie area.

The airport carries the place name into regional history. It began in the 1930s as New Hackensack Field, first built to support U.S. mail service, then served as an Army Air Corps training field during World War II. Dutchess County has owned it since 1947; today Hudson Valley Regional Airport is a general-aviation facility with a county sheriff's substation and other businesses in its terminal. For New Hackensack, an old hamlet name remains attached to an active aviation district, with county services and airport activity immediately beside the CDP. Its terminal and runways remain a working landmark on the western edge.
