About New Hope

New Hope is an Augusta County census-designated place in the Shenandoah Valley, identified most clearly by the former New Hope High School on Virginia Route 608. Built in 1925, the brick school was among Augusta County's first modern consolidated high schools, with an auditorium, library, stage, office, and home-economics room arranged around a central plan. It became an elementary school in 1947 and closed in the early 1990s; the building remains listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and National Register of Historic Places. New Hope's place on the map is tied to county-wide school consolidation and a preserved 1920s schoolhouse.
