About New Kingstown
New Kingstown is a Cumberland County CDP along U.S. 11 in Silver Spring Township, on the Carlisle Pike between Carlisle and Harrisburg. John King laid out the settlement around 1826, when the turnpike was the main route through the Cumberland Valley. Its position ties the place to nearby Carlisle, the county seat, and to the larger Harrisburg area. Today the community is served by Cumberland Valley School District, and its identity is less about municipal boundaries than the old road running through it. If you’re mapping the area, think of New Kingstown as a named stop on the Carlisle Pike, close to Carlisle but still part of Silver Spring Township.
