New Lenox has evolved from a quiet railroad stop into one of the most popular southwest suburbs for families and commuters. Located about 35 miles southwest of the Chicago Loop, the village is home to roughly 28,000 residents and offers a comfortable blend of small-town roots and modern conveniences. Getting around the region is straightforward with Interstate 80 and Interstate 355 running right along the edges of town, while Route 30 connects local shopping centers and restaurants. For daily commuters into downtown Chicago, having two separate Metra train lines is a huge perk. If you are house hunting, keep in mind that the broader New Lenox township encompasses unincorporated areas as well, so checking municipal, school, and park district boundaries for any specific address is always a good idea.

The Village Commons keeps an active calendar throughout the entire year. During the warmer months, locals head to the lawn for the weekly farmers market, outdoor movie nights, classic car shows, food truck rallies, and the popular summer concert series. When winter rolls around, the grounds transform for Christmas in the Commons, complete with horse-drawn wagon rides, an outdoor ice rink, holiday craft markets, and a massive illuminated Santa. A local favorite is Hibernia Park, which features a stocked fishing lake, a half-mile walking loop, a splash pad, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, and seasonal pedal boat rentals. For longer outdoor excursions, the 22-mile Old Plank Road Trail cuts right through the middle of town along a former railroad right-of-way. Cyclists, runners, and walkers use this paved path year-round to travel between Joliet and Chicago Heights or connect to larger regional trail networks.
