About New London

New London is a Kandiyohi County city along the Middle Fork of the Crow River, named by Louis Larson after his former home of New London, Wisconsin. It was incorporated in 1889, and the old millpond still marks a town story that later turned toward fish production. The New London Fish Hatchery began as a Works Progress Administration project in 1940 and now raises walleye, northern pike, and muskellunge in ponds beside the river. Sibley State Park is nearby, while Highways 9 and 23 run through town and U.S. 71 passes close. The local shorthand is river, millpond, hatchery, and park country.
