New Market, PA

New Market is a census-designated place in Fairview Township, York County, with 705 residents in the 2020 census. The community occupies the northern edge of the township near the Susquehanna River, Yellow Breeches Creek, and the road toward Harrisburg. In the mid-1700s the area was associated with John Harris, and a ferry made the river crossing useful for travelers. Henry Mosser and William Culbertson laid out a 120-lot village in 1807, giving New Market the compact street plan it still carries.
