New Meadows, ID

New Meadows is a small city in Adams County at the southern end of Meadows Valley, where the Little Salmon River meets the junction of U.S. 95 and Idaho 55. The valley opens into forests, ranchland, and mountain routes, and the town has long been a stopping point between McCall, Council, Riggins, and the Salmon River country. Trappers and prospectors were early visitors; the Pacific and Idaho Northern Railroad arrived around 1910, prompting merchants to move buildings to the new townsite.

New Meadows incorporated in 1912 and grew as a timber, trading, agricultural, social, and educational center. The historic Adams County depot now sits at City Hall, and the Meadows Valley community calendar keeps the town tied to local school, library, and seasonal events. U.S. 95 carries north-south traffic, while Highway 55 climbs toward McCall and Boise. Nearby Brundage Mountain, Little Ski Hill, Payette National Forest, and the Weiser River Trail turn the valley into a base for outdoor trips. New Meadows is a mountain crossroads whose rail beginning still shapes its civic center.
