About New Miami

New Miami is a Butler County village whose older name, Coke Otto, tells the whole industrial story in two words. The United Coke and Gas Company built 120 Otto-Hoffman coke ovens around 1905, covering roughly 50 acres and feeding the coal-and-steel economy around Hamilton. The village incorporated in 1929, still carrying the industrial footprint that had drawn workers and families to the site. In 1937 the property was purchased by American Rolling Mill Company, later ARMCO. New Miami’s local map is therefore less about a traditional main street than about the former coke plant, the village north of Hamilton, and the Butler County industry that grew around it.
