New Richland, MN

New Richland is a Waseca County city on Minnesota Highways 13 and 30, with NRHEG schools and a cluster of small-town services. The 2020 census counted 1,229 residents. The city's park, public library, bakery, cafe, grocery, clinic, dental office, bowling alley, and assisted-living and nursing facilities keep many daily errands close. St. Olaf Lake Park, three miles east, adds a boat ramp, beach, fishing, swimming, picnic area, and a bike trail from town.

New Richland was platted in 1877 and grew around a depot, banks, blacksmith shops, hotels, a flour mill, creamery, cheese factory, and farm trade. The 1902 Independent Order of Odd Fellows hall, known as Stranger's Refuge, is listed on the National Register and is being restored as a local gathering place. Churches and the NRHEG campus extend that older civic pattern into the present. The city's St. Olaf Lake events, youth baseball and softball, summer reading, bowling leagues, and park programs give the calendar its rhythm. New Richland is a southern Minnesota service town where farming, school life, local care, and lake recreation overlap.
