New Vienna, OH

New Vienna is a Clinton County village in southwestern Ohio, about seven miles east of Martinsville. The 2020 census counted 1,108 residents. State Routes 28 and 73 cross through the village, while the East Fork Little Miami River runs across its southern edge and the Indiana & Ohio Railroad follows an east-west line. Those routes keep New Vienna tied to Wilmington, Hillsboro, and surrounding farm country. The village’s present-day map is compact: homes, southern river bottom, and a rail line sharing a small footprint.

New Vienna was laid out in 1835 under the name Buzzard’s Glory. The name changed as the settlement took on a more formal place in Clinton County, but the old name survives in local history. The railroad and state routes later gave the village a connection beyond its original crossroads. New Vienna remains a small settlement shaped by the same basic ingredients that brought people here—water, roads, and a line of transportation cutting through the valley.
