New Washington, OH

New Washington is a Crawford County village in Cranberry Township, laid out in 1833 and incorporated in 1874. George Washington Meyers planned the village, which became known as Dutchtown because many early residents were German families. German was widely spoken in the community in its early years, leaving New Washington with a distinct local story inside the surrounding farm country. Main Street and the village gazebo still provide the small-town frame.

Village administration and council meetings keep local government centered in the community, while fire and rescue, the local library, and Buckeye Recreation serve ordinary daily needs. The public swimming pool adds a summer gathering place, and a new Veterans Memorial is underway. Council meetings, village services, and the recreation facilities keep the civic calendar moving through the year.
