Newtonville, NJ

Newtonville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Buena Vista Township, in western Atlantic County. The area sits east-northeast of Buena along a Conrail line and has its own post office, giving the settlement a recognizable address even though township government handles municipal business. Newtonville was once planned for more development by an associate of Vineland founder Charles Landis, but the larger town never arrived in the way its planners expected. The old first school on Jackson Road still stands as a private home.

Today, the Newtonville Fire Department, the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Center, and the African American Heritage Museum give the community a stronger civic map than the population count alone suggests. Buena Regional schools serve the wider township, while farms, county roads, and neighboring sections such as Buena, Richland, and Milmay fill out the surrounding South Jersey landscape.
