Nittany, PA

Nittany is a Centre County census-designated place in Walker Township, at the northeastern edge of the county beside Lamar in Clinton County. The 2020 census counted 624 residents. The village sits in the Nittany Valley between Nittany Mountain and Sand Ridge, with Pennsylvania Routes 64 and 445 meeting at its center. Bellefonte Area School District serves the community, while I-80 is about three miles northeast through Lamar. The valley’s farms, wooded ridges, and long roads make the local setting immediately legible.

Nittany was once a stopping place on the Central Railroad of Pennsylvania, which connected Centre County with Clinton County and the New York Central line. Peck’s Inn and Store stood at the Route 64 and 445 intersection and served as the village’s main landmark. Today the railroad is mostly part of the historical map, but the old crossroads role remains. PA 64 carries traffic toward Lamar and Zion, PA 445 crosses toward Millheim, and Nittany stays a small valley settlement organized around roads, school buses, farms, and the mountain ridges on either side.
