About Nocona Hills
Nocona Hills is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Montague County, next to Lake Nocona. The 2020 census counted 637 residents. It was established in 1971 across nearly 1,500 acres of wooded hills, with roughly 30 miles of private roads, a homeowners association, and a 24-hour manned gate. That private setup matters: Nocona Hills has no city police patrol or city taxes, and the HOA handles common areas and its own security.
Inside the community are a 50-acre private fishing lake, an 18-hole golf course, an airstrip, an RV park, and a boat ramp to the larger lake. Lake Nocona is operated by the City of Nocona for municipal, irrigation, and recreation uses, so public water access sits beside a gated residential landscape. Nocona itself is about nine miles away and supplies the nearby town connection. The local civic structure runs through the HOA and shared private facilities, with Nocona and its public reservoir providing the nearby municipal context.
