Norfork, AR

Norfork sits in north-central Arkansas where the North Fork River joins the White River in Baxter County. The town grew beside an older crossroads: the Wolf House, built around 1829 at the river meeting, served as a trading post and courthouse and remains the state’s oldest public structure. Later, Norfork Dam and Lake altered the surrounding water system, while the White River tailwater became known for trout fishing. The result is a town whose history and recreation both follow the rivers.

Norfork School District serves students from kindergarten through twelfth grade, with Arrie Goforth Elementary and Norfork High School on the local campus map. The city also supports a volunteer fire department, youth center, food bank, thrift store, and river-oriented businesses. Boaters and anglers use the White and North Fork waters, while the roads lead toward Mountain Home, Bull Shoals, and the Ozark hills. Norfork’s scale is small, but its setting is expansive: two rivers, a historic house, a dam, and a school community gathered in one valley.
