About Norridgewock

Norridgewock's village sits where the Sandy River meets the Kennebec, with U.S. 2, 201A, Maine 8, and Maine 139 converging around the river country. Long before the present town, this area was home to the Norridgewock Abenaki community; the Old Point site is part of a nationally recognized archaeological district. The modern village carries a different set of landmarks: a 1901 Civil War monument, the historical society on Route 2, and the Kennebec crossing that has tied the two sides together for generations. The covered bridge built in 1849 was once 600 feet long. Norridgewock is a river junction with deep Indigenous, colonial, and working-Maine layers.
