North Enid, OK

North Enid is a Garfield County town that began as Enid Station on the Rock Island railroad in 1889. Then the Cherokee Outlet land run split the map: the government’s townsite was placed about three miles south, the railroad refused to stop there, and the resulting fight became the Enid Railroad War. North Enid was the original rail town, but South Enid won the county-seat role and eventually became today’s Enid. U.S. 64 runs along North Enid’s western edge, and Chisholm Public Schools serves the town. North Enid is north-central Oklahoma with an old railroad name, a disputed townsite, and a county seat just down the road.
