About North Garden
North Garden is an Albemarle County community southwest of Charlottesville, with a post office and a name that feels more like a crossroads marker than a city-center address. The historic record around it is stronger than the small map label suggests. Crossroads Tavern, built around 1820 along the Staunton and James River Turnpike, once served farmers and travelers using the road. Nearby Cocke’s Mill House and Mill Site was listed on the National Register in 1990. North Garden’s local shorthand is old road traffic, Albemarle farm country, and a few preserved places that keep the community’s earlier shape visible.
