North Lauderdale, FL

North Lauderdale was still pasture and farmland when the city was created in 1963 on what was then the western edge of Broward County development. Architect Morris Lapidus laid out the new city after designing several landmark Miami Beach hotels; his plan survives most visibly in the curving Boulevard of Champions and decorative beacons. Development accelerated in the late 1960s and 1970s, and the 2020 census counted 44,794 residents. City parks double as event venues. North Lauderdale maintains 17 parks totaling more than 150 acres and organizes youth and adult sports, camps, pool movies, senior excursions, and special events.

The 2026 calendar places a fishing derby, environmental workday, art event, and two 5K run-walks at Hampton Pines Park; the Sports Complex hosts North Lauderdale Days, multicultural nights, an egg hunt, and the Independence Day celebration. The Jerry Resnick Aquatic Center adds a heated junior-Olympic-size pool, water playground, swim lessons, water aerobics, lap swimming, and water walking. At the North Lauderdale Saraniero Branch of Broward County Library, Creation Station Science provides hands-on STEM programs and lends year-round citizen-science kits for projects such as observing pollinators, mapping mosquito habitat, measuring night light, and monitoring air quality.
