About North Lewisburg
North Lewisburg is a Champaign County village laid out by Gray Gary in 1826 on Spain’s Creek near a large spring. Families from Virginia had begun settling the surrounding country in 1805, and Gary saw a town site in the water, farmland, and road crossings. The village incorporated in 1844, and its old town hall bell now sits outside the municipal building; the crack came from residents ringing it to celebrate the end of World War II. North Lewisburg is an Ohio village with a spring at its beginning and a bell with a wartime scar.
