North Liberty, IN

North Liberty was established by Daniel Antrim on January 12, 1836, in Liberty Township southwest of South Bend. The town's location at State Roads 4 and 23 has always mattered, tying the local grid to farms, neighboring communities, and the broader South Bend area. The town park plan also places North Liberty near Potato Creek State Park, a landscape with earlier Potawatomi history, nineteenth-century farm settlements, and the Huggart Settlement, a free African American community. Current North Liberty keeps its town services in the same center: town hall on South Main Street, a town park and community building, utilities, police, and council offices. Potato Creek State Park remains the regional landmark at the township's northeast corner, while North Liberty's own streets and park give the place its civic scale. It is a town with a transportation crossroads outside the door and a layered park history just beyond it.
