North Pekin, IL

North Pekin is a Tazewell County village in the Peoria-Pekin area, close to its larger namesake but with its own municipal rhythm. Illinois State Archives records put the village's incorporation in April 1948. The village hall community room doubles as a place for showers, wedding receptions, and birthday parties, while volunteers keep the planning and zoning commission moving. North Pekin is not a separate downtown story so much as a village that chose to stay itself beside the better-known Pekin area. The north-south name makes sense once you see how the smaller community fits into the Illinois River region: a compact residential place with county roads, local government, and a neighbor big enough to handle the larger errands.
