About Norway

Norway is a quiet rural town in western Orangeburg County, founded in the 1890s when the railroad expanded through this stretch of South Carolina. Railroad planners had a penchant for Scandinavian names back then, which is how Norway ended up alongside neighboring Denmark and Sweden. Today, the town maintains a relaxed, small-footprint atmosphere, surrounded by open farmland and quiet country roads.

Norway Town Hall

One of the town's defining features is the Norway Museum, located inside the historic 1920s Willow High School building. The old school preserves local heritage and gives the community a tangible link to its past. Living here offers a slow, peaceful pace with plenty of open space, while still putting you within an easy drive of Springfield, Denmark, and the broader shopping and dining in Orangeburg.
