Norwood, LA

Norwood is a village in northwestern East Feliciana Parish, with Louisiana Highway 19 running toward Baton Rouge to the south and the Mississippi line to the north. The 2020 census counted 279 residents. Its location places it about 39 miles from Baton Rouge and inside the parish's rural north end. Norwood entered the map in 1883, when Abel J. Norwood gave the railroad right-of-way and 75 acres for the town.

His gift came with a practical condition: passing trains had to stop. Six trains reportedly called at Norwood each day in the railroad era, turning the village into a small transfer point for people and goods moving along the parish. The tracks no longer organize daily movement, so Highway 19 carries that through-route role now. Norwood remains one of East Feliciana's named villages, with Clinton serving as the parish seat and Baton Rouge supplying the nearest large-city connection. Its defining details are the north-south highway, the state line nearby, and a town plan born from a promised train stop.
