Notus, ID

Notus is a Canyon County city on Highway 20/26, five miles west of Caldwell and eight miles east of Parma. The 2020 census counted 609 residents. Union Pacific tracks run east-west between the highway and the Boise River, with the business strip on the north side and agricultural industry and homes across the tracks. The city's position makes the road-and-rail corridor part of daily life: freight, farm traffic, storefronts, and trips toward Caldwell all share the same narrow map. The surrounding fields include orchard, seed, onion, potato, corn, alfalfa, and sugar-beet production.

Notus grew from the Lower Boise Post Office, established in 1874 on the C. L. F. Peterson homestead; that post office helped draw the settlement toward its present location. Today, the city has a public library, community center, post office, museum, parks, and city hall, while Notus School District 135 serves local students. Those facilities sit alongside the agricultural and rail landscape, so the community's scale is visible in the short distance between civic buildings, working land, and the highway.
