Nutter Fort, WV

Nutter Fort takes its name from the Nutter brothers, who came into Harrison County in 1772 and built a defended fort along Elk Creek. The town incorporated in 1923, but that older story still sets the tone: this is a place organized around a name, a creek, and the memory of the first families who established themselves here. The later West Virginia Blackberry Festival, held for decades before its cancellation, added a newer tradition built around local agriculture and town landmarks. Today Nutter Fort sits beside Clarksburg as a small Harrison County town with Norwood Park, the public library, and the old fort story all folded into its everyday map.
