About Oak Grove

Oak Grove is the seat of West Carroll Parish in northeastern Louisiana, with 1,441 residents in the 2020 census. Louisiana Highway 2 becomes Main Street, running through a town center organized around the parish courthouse, local businesses, schools, and the Fiske Theatre. The town sits in the agricultural country of northeastern Louisiana, with parish government and school routines giving it a role larger than its population suggests. The courthouse and theater make Highway 2 a practical town spine as well as a route across the parish.

Fiske Theatre gives Oak Grove its distinctive civic detail. The first theater opened in 1928; the current single-screen building dates to 1950 and remains the oldest operating movie theater in northeast Louisiana. It was restored in 2012 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. West Carroll Parish schools include Oak Grove Elementary and Oak Grove High School, tying education to the same Main Street corridor. Oak Grove is a Louisiana parish-seat town where a highway, courthouse, school system, and nearly century-old movie house still share one center.
