About Oak Island

Oak Island is a seaside town in southeastern North Carolina, stretching along a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. The island has been inhabited since the early 19th century, when Fort Caswell was constructed on its eastern end. Today Oak Island is known for beaches, fishing piers, vacation homes, and a more relaxed Brunswick County coast feel than some larger resort towns. It borders Caswell Beach and sits across the water from mainland communities such as St. James.
