About Oakfield

Oakfield is a Fond du Lac County village inside the Town of Oakfield, named for an oak grove near the original site. Its post office has operated since 1850, and the village still reads through Main Street, the public library, Oakfield School District, the water tower, and the grain elevators. On July 18, 1996, a violent tornado cut through Oakfield and the surrounding town, destroying homes and businesses while injuring residents but killing no one. The village rebuilt, and the tornado remains part of its modern history. Oakfield is a Wisconsin place whose name starts with trees and whose recent story is written in wind, grain, and recovery.
