About Oakland

Oakland is a Bergen County borough in northern New Jersey, set near the Ramapo River and the Ramapo Mountains. The Van Allen House, built in 1748, is one of its strongest historic landmarks and served as a stop for George Washington and his troops in 1777. Oakland has a more wooded and river-oriented feel than many Bergen County suburbs, with parks, athletic fields, and mountain access close by. It sits within the New York metro area, but its setting feels distinctly outer-suburban.
