About Oakley
Oakley is Logan County's seat, a northwestern Kansas city laid out along the old Smoky Hill Trail. Homesteaders came through the trail country in the 1870s and 1880s, and Oakley took its official name in 1885. The Fick Fossil and History Museum makes the local geology part of the town's story, displaying fossils, tools, minerals, and folk art from the region. Oakley also sits near the South Fork of the Saline River and the junction of I-70, U.S. 40, and U.S. 83. It is a county-seat town with trail dust and fossils in the same address.
