About Oasis
Oasis is an unincorporated Coachella Valley community in Riverside County, set along the eastern foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains and extending south toward the northwestern shore of the Salton Sea. At 141 feet below sea level, the landscape is desert-flat, intensely hot, and shaped by irrigation. Date palms, orchards, fields, canals, and farm roads sit beside mobile homes and small community spaces. Coachella Valley Water District manages irrigation and drinking water, wastewater, groundwater replenishment, and stormwater across the region, so water management is part of the infrastructure under every part of Oasis.
Current local work focuses on shade and gathering space. Oasis is included in an eastern Coachella Valley shade-equity plan after residents described sparse trees and shade at parks, schools, and fields. The Salton Sea, Oasis Spring Ecological Reserve, agriculture, and the Santa Rosa foothills give the community its geography, while Mecca and the larger Coachella Valley provide nearby services and jobs. Oasis is a desert agricultural community with a strong physical setting: palms and canals below the mountains, the Salton Sea at the southern edge, and residents shaping a more usable daily landscape in extreme heat.
