About Ogden

Ogden is a Riley County city near Fort Riley, between Manhattan and Junction City. It was founded around 1857 and named for Major E. A. Ogden of the Army Corps of Engineers, who helped build the nearby fort. The Kansas Pacific railroad reached Ogden and Manhattan in 1866, giving both towns a new reason to grow. Ogden briefly held the Riley County seat after the county formed, but the seat moved to Manhattan in 1858; the town later incorporated as a second-class city in 1870. Ogden is a Kansas place with a military neighbor, a railroad chapter, and a county-seat story that changed quickly.
