Okeechobee is a city and the county seat of Okeechobee County, Florida, situated just north of Lake Okeechobee. Historic as the site of a pivotal 1837 Second Seminole War battle led by Zachary Taylor and rebuilt after the devastating 1928 hurricane, the community of approximately 5,479 is served by the Okeechobee County School District for public education.
