About Oklaunion

Located just east of Vernon in Wilbarger County, Oklaunion is a quiet rural community with deep North Texas roots. The town started out under the name Mayflower before being renamed in the late 1880s during an effort to attract competing rail lines. While the major junction ended up in Vernon, Oklaunion still found its footing as a reliable rail stop for local farmers and ranchers. Today, it remains a small, relaxed country community where folks enjoy quiet surroundings and plenty of open space.
