Olde West Chester, OH

Olde West Chester is a Butler County census-designated place at the center of West Chester Township, with 201 residents in the 2020 census. Cincinnati-Dayton Road runs through the historic center, while Interstate 75 forms the northwestern edge and Beckett Ridge lies to the west. The place began as a small crossroads called Hogtown or Mechanicsburg, and the older road, church, cemetery, and village buildings still sit inside a township now known for a much larger suburban population. The local map carries two scales at once.

Hezekiah Smith bought 64 acres and platted Mechanicsburg in 1817, naming it for the mechanics who served nearby farmers. The village became West Chester in 1826. An 1810 tavern site, the 1818 Methodist congregation, the former Station Road Schoolhouse, and the West Chester History Center keep the early settlement visible. Recent Cincinnati-Dayton Road improvements brought sidewalks, crossings, and decorative lighting through the old center. Olde West Chester is an Ohio crossroads where an early village survives inside a busy township.
