Oldenburg, IN

Oldenburg is a Franklin County town founded in 1837 by German settlers and still shaped by that origin. The town took the Oldenburg name from Germany, then grew into a Catholic German-speaking community with churches, convents, and schools gathered around its center. The Oldenburg Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1983, includes the town's most recognizable cluster of religious buildings, including the Old Stone Church and the convent complex. Locals call it the Village of Spires, and that nickname is easy to understand once you see the skyline. Oldenburg is southern Indiana with German street names, church towers, and a town plan built around faith and immigration.
