Oldwick, NJ

Oldwick is a Hunterdon County CDP in Tewksbury Township, a small village gathered around County Route 517, Church Street, King Street, and the old turnpike. The 2020 census counted 445 residents. The place was known as Smithfield in the 18th century, then New Germantown, before the Oldwick name took hold. Those name changes track the settlers who shaped the village: English beginnings followed by German and Dutch arrivals. Oldwick's 170-acre historic district keeps the village center unusually intact, with Zion Lutheran Church from 1749, the Tewksbury Inn, Oldwick Methodist Church, the old general store, and houses along the cross streets.

The former school and community house now hold the Tewksbury Library, giving the historic center a current use. Farm roads and preserved fields spread around the village, while the larger Hunterdon County map sits a few turns away. Oldwick's local scoop is a little crossroads where church, inn, library, and farmhouse still make the old village pattern easy to see.
